CAMBRIAN COMMUNITY CENTER
This project illustrates that a school’s mission is no longer just to serve the educational needs of students, but also community needs. In 2000, the Cambrian School District, built this complex on the Price Middle School campus to serve as a new community sports center.
The project features a gymnasium, stage, locker rooms, offices and other support spaces. A pyramid roof is used over the gymnasium to keep its perimeter massing low, while providing greater height toward the center of the space, where it is needed for sports functions. Large insulated skylights at the roof peaks bring natural light into the main spaces, eliminating the need for electric lighting during the major part of the day.
