ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Located about a mile away from Mission San Jose, one of the original
21 California missions, this new 900-student elementary school
sought to capture the architectural flavor and style of the mission
era.
The entire school was built on a 4-acre parcel, adjacent to
a joint-used park. Buildings surround and face the 4 linking courtyards,
providing control and security in the manner of the mission settlements.
The kindergarten and administrative building and the multi-purpose
complex face the front of the school, while classrooms occupy the
rear part.
“I’ve been in this business for 25 years, dealing with AEDIS for 15. Prior to that I was dealing with firms who said they knew school districts but then would design things totally inappropriately. When AEDIS designs things for kids, it works for kids! They remember we need tack board on the walls and to use doors that aren’t too heavy for kids to open. They make it easy. I don’t have to lay awake nights worrying.”
