SAN JOSE CITY
COLLEGE MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTS COMPLEX
AEDIS Architecture & Planning teamed with Blach Construction in a Design/Build competition for the $28 million San Jose City College Multidisciplinary Arts Complex, winning 1st Place for its creative solution to program requirements and total commitment to sustainability.
The design brings together the visual and performing arts programs currently scattered throughout the campus, while maintaining a minimal building footprint and leaving most of the open spaces intact. Natural light and ventilation are used throughout the project, along with a highly efficient HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning) system. The project is targeting at a minimum a LEED Silver certification.
Student-centered features include an exterior "art wall" that celebrates creativity and diversity , and writable-surface interior classroom and hallway walls that encourage spontaneous work and collaboration.
The 45,000-sq.-ft. complex will be complete in 2012. |
