Enrollment at Dublin High School is
projected to grow to approximately 2,500, significantly exceeding
current capacity of 1,500. Since building a new high school was
considered not financially feasible, the school board decided to
reconstruct and expand the high school on its current 40-acre site.
The existing one-story, largely windowless classroom buildings
as well as the small theater that divides the main courtyard will
be demolished. The existing library in the center is to remain
and be completely renovated. The cafeteria will be converted to
a music complex, while the gymnasium will be used only for practice.
A new complex of day-lit two story structures, linked at both
the ground and upper levels, will house academic departments. Each
of these buildings is organized with classrooms along the north
and south sides and a common “special project” space
in the center, physically and visually connected to the classrooms.
At the new main entrance, a new student services wing will house
all administrative and counseling offices. A new 600-seat theater
will anchor the front side of the school, while a new 2,500-seat
sports complex will dominate the rear part, adjacent to a completely
new sports stadium.
Sustainable design elements include day-lighting, reduced building
footprint, reduced light pollution, HVAC system connected with
operable windows, building commissioning, construction waste recycling,
certified wood, low-VOC materials, pollutant source control, construction
IAQ management, improved acoustics, superior energy performance,
cool roof and others. The project is scheduled to receive a CHPS
certification. |
